We Wai Kai Nation Economic Development Overview
Issue/Purpose
To provide an overview of the Economic Development Program, administrative support staff, and financial funding source.
Background
The We Wai Kai Nation Economic Development Program is committed to developing a self-sustaining economic sector utilizing existing human, natural and other resources for the benefit of existing and future generations of the We Wai Kai Nation.
Vision
A We Wai Kai Nation that prospers and grows is based primarily on wealth that is generated by Nation-owned businesses, by our members through entrepreneurship and through meaningful employment.
We as a Nation will determine how best to utilize our natural resources. We will create a community that supports We Wai Kai businesses. We will ensure that each of our members can make the most of their talents and aspirations to generate income and self-sufficiency.
Mission
Economic Development will support the creation of a sustainable local economy. A strong local economy will retain and invest We Wai Kai monies within We Wai Kai businesses and members. This will be accomplished by:
- Creating new businesses that will benefit our members through employment and local services.
- Maximizing commercial and light industrial leasing opportunities in identified economic development areas on all Nation-owned reserves and lands.
- Supporting individuals who want to create small businesses and employ other Nation or community members.
- Raising the level of business knowledge and ability across all of our members, especially our youth, so that they may become stronger economic leaders in the future.

- A high-performance team who practices networking and who are sound problem solvers.
- Humility and patience with service to others and community.
